Allandale condo is a slice of Chestnut Hill
Chestnut Hill, home of Boston College, the Mall at Chestnut Hill and The Country Club, includes areas of Newton in Middlesex County, Brookline in Norfolk County and Boston in Suffolk County with one zip code – 02467.
The Boston section is where Jamaica Plain and Roslindale meet at Allandale Street, which begins across from the Arnold Arboretum at Faulkner Hospital and ends at Grove Street just down from The Country Club.
Much of the area remains wooded, and many of the homes are down long driveways. At 200-234 Allandale St., a gatehouse guards one of those driveways.
There are 64 units at the Condominiums on Allandale in Chestnut Hill. Half are in mid-rise buildings, and the others are townhouses in clusters of two to four. All of the buildings are spread out on more than 43 hilly acres.
Michael Berger of Gibson Waterfront Sotheby’s International Realty is marketing one of the townhouses at 214-D Allandale for $1.899 million.
Built in 1995, this home was updated two years ago.
There are 10 rooms in the 4,614 +/- square feet of living area, plus a huge lower level storage area, a two-car garage, two large decks and a back patio.
The library has lovely wood paneling and built-in bookcases.
The rooms include a beautiful living room, a formal dining room, a professional kitchen and an amazing first floor master suite.
The driveway for 214-D ends at the two large doors for the private garage. A walkway passes the front yard, which has been professionally planted with small trees and shrubs including evergreen holly. Inside the front door is a large entry hall.
To the right is a wonderful library with wood paneling, deep molding, built-in bookcases and a large window that overlooks the front yard. Recessed lighting adds to the light from the window.
The next room is an informal dining area with a wall of cherry wood glass-front china cabinets and lower storage cabinets, another wall holding sliders to a large side deck and a third side open to the kitchen.
In the next area is built-in seating with storage in front of a large window.
Opposite, on the left is a wall of cherry wood cabinets, which continues through the remainder of the room, punctuated in spots by a stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator/ freezer, a stainless steel combination microwave/convection oven and a small amount of open shelving to display decorative items.

Some of the cabinets are specialized with pullout stainless steel shelving.
Across from the wall of cabinets is the U-shaped working kitchen. There are more cherry cabinets and granite countertops with stone backsplashes, and another window is above the sink.
The gas range has six top burners and the Fisher & Paykel dishwasher has two drawers. A bread warmer drawer is built into one of the cabinets, and a heavy glass shelf rises above the granite countertop to provide more usable space without blocking the view.
A door at the end of the kitchen opens to a formal dining room.
The beautiful ceiling here is a tray-type rimmed with heavy molding. Two of the dining room walls contain large windows, and a third has a wide entry to the formal living room.
One end of the living room features a wall of windows with transom lights and a slider to an oversized deck.
Custom plantation shutters open to let in light or close to cover the windows.
Another wall has a wood-burning fireplace with a beautiful mantelpiece decorated with a ribbon carving.
The room is so large that even the baby grand piano looks small.
A door opposite the wall of glass leads past an open stairway and back to the foyer. Beside the front door, a laundry room leads to the garage.
Past the stairs, a short hall goes by a powder room to an amazing master bedroom suite. Through the bedroom door is a hallway.
To the left is a large dressing room with a mirror on one wall and doors to two walk-in closets. The huge closets, as large as rooms in some homes, have built-in shelving and hanging rods at varying heights.
Across this hallway is the entrance to one bath. It has a shower at the far end.
Back in the hallway, the next door is to another bathroom, which has a deep Jacuzzi soaking tub and a shower beyond.
The shower turns out to be connected to the first shower. Finally, the master bedroom is at the end of the hallway.
It boasts a decorative fireplace in one wall and a large window that overlooks the back yard in another. The ceiling is rimmed with wide molding.
Up the stairs in the entry hall are a small study and two bedrooms.
Each bedroom has an en suite bath, and the tub is in a separate space so that it can be shared.
On the lower level of this home is a tremendous family room. It has sliders to the back patio and a door to the back yard.
Down the hall is another bedroom with windows overlooking the back yard and another full bath. At the base of the stairs, a door leads to a massive storage room.
The Condominiums at Allandale are an oasis from the city, with driveways that are ideal for walking or jogging and a tennis court for more exercise opportunities.
Down one of the roadways a small stream murmurs as it drops from one level to the next beside the clubhouse.
A large living room in the clubhouse has a fireplace, comfortable sofas and chairs, and tables for cards and other games.
Across a hallway are powder rooms. A door at the end of the hall leads to a porch that overlooks the back yard where there is a large swimming pool for residents.
This home offers country living in its own community.
