Boston Seaport condo has stunning views
An amazing condominium worthy of being a movie set is on the market in the Seaport District. The entertaining areas are loft style, but the bedrooms and baths are private.
It has an astounding 3,038 +/- square feet divided into two bedrooms, two baths, a large entry foyer with a study area, a huge family room and an enormous living room and open stainless steel and granite kitchen.
Ricardo Rodriguez of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage has listed it at $1.349 million.
In the late 1890s, South Station was built as a hub for both passenger and freight trains. About the same time, warehouses were built across Fort Point Channel, convenient to both rail and ocean shipping.
By the 1980s the area across the Fort Point channel, just a short walk from Boston’s Financial District, was prime for redevelopment.
It is now called the Seaport District, and segments of it have been included in the city’s new Innovation District.
The kitchen features stainless steel appliances and a matching backsplash. A huge pantry is stainless steel also.
In recent years sleek restaurants opened by famous Boston chefs have joined such stalwarts as Anthony’s Pier 4 and the No Name Restaurant, popular for generations.
New condominium complexes as well as the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, and a rebuilt Boston Tea Party Museum are joining the Boston Children’s Museum in the area.
One of the earlier condominium complexes in the Seaport District is Fort Point Place at 21 Wormwood St. where two side-by-side warehouses were combined. An annex constructed between them includes the lobby and the elevators for the 125 luxury loft-style units.
At Fort Point Place Units 314 and 315 were combined soon after they were completed. Together they fill the entire front of the third floor of the building on the right and form a spectacular home.
The wood flooring of the home appears to be maple or birch. It glistens in the light from the large windows and the industrial type hanging light fixtures.
The high white ceiling is channeled. Most of the oversize doors in the unit are of stainless steel and the walls are brick.
The main living space is so big that it can easily accommodate a pool table.
Inside this unit is a large entry. An alcove beside the door provides a perfect space for an open office. To the right are a full bath and then the family room.
To the left a wide hallway passes two bedrooms on the right and a large storage room and full bath on the left before ending at the living room and kitchen.
The full bath to the right has a tub/shower with white tile walls and a vanity with a granite countertop and two sinks. There is extra storage between the bathroom and its door.
In the family room, neutral colored draperies hang from rods along one wall. Behind the draperies, arched brick surrounds niches where art can be displayed.
At the front of the building two large windows face in two directions and a third huge window beside them that goes all the way to the floor.
The room is so large that the conversation area with sofas and chairs at one end and the pool table at the other seem to take almost no space.
A dining area has been created between the stainless steel kitchen and living area.
The first bedroom is the master. The huge room has two double closets and two large windows. Square opaque glass bricks give extra light to the room from the family room and enhance the red brick walls.
The second bedroom has one window and is about half the width of the master but is just as deep. The brick walls are painted white. Like the master bedroom, recessed lighting illuminates the room.
Across from the master bedroom is a wall that runs at an angle from the office to a wall parallel to the bedroom walls. A beautifully framed mirror, even larger than the front door, is in the center of that wall. The mirror turns out to be the door to a spacious storage room.
Beside the storage room is another full bath that includes a laundry area with a Bosch washer and dryer. The bathroom has paneled wainscoting and a tub/shower surrounded by white tile. The vanity is topped with granite and has two sinks.
The living room/kitchen area is even larger than the family room. Eight large windows are evenly spaced along two walls.
The windows give panoramic views of the Financial District and provide copious light that enhances the gleaming wooden floors.
Exposed brick in the master bedroom adds warmth to the space, which has a closet with two huge doors.
The kitchen is at the near end. It has a stainless steel backsplash and custom cabinets in a color similar to the floors. The center island has wooden cabinets and a built-in wine rack on the kitchen side, but all other sides are of stainless steel. The stainless steel appliances include a Viking range with four gas burners. A stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator/freezer is at one end of the granite counter. At the other end is a stainless steel pantry.
The unit has central heat and air conditioning. One of the two deeded parking spaces is in the first floor garage of the building.
