Charming Charlestown home has four fireplaces
A gorgeous home is available in the historic Town Hill district of Charlestown.
According to the Charlestown Historical Society, it, along with the house next door and those across the street, form of a cluster of “well crafted Greek Revival wood frame houses.”
The homes are beautiful, and their shades of pink, yellow, tan and teal produce a delightful view from the home’s windows and its front yard.
Nancy Roth of Hammond Residential Real Estate has listed this home at 74 Warren St. at $869,000.
The original building permit for the home is not available, but research of the deeds shows that the land was sold to Daniel J. Coburn, gentleman, Feb. 3, 1837.
It is thought that the house was built in the spring and summer of that year. It is located near the middle of the block between Monument Avenue and Pleasant Street.
The layout of the house is unusual. It is part of what was a two-family home.
The elegant living room features a carved marble wood-burning fireplace.
Like many Greek Revival homes, the gable end faces the street. A front door is in the center under the peak of the roof.
Around the corner of the same house is a colonial-style facade with a center front door.
The entrance to 72 Warren is the door beneath the gable; 74 Warren is reached through the door at the side.
Well-known Charlestown developer Bruce Daniel renovated the home in 1992 and 1993 and officially made it two separate units and deeds. Each has its own systems, so the only shared cost is the yearly master insurance payment and building maintenance.
A grassy lawn separates 74 Warren from the beautiful pink home at 80 Warren. Both homes face the lawn.
The dining room, painted brick red, has a marble fireplace that is identical to the one in the living room.
A white picket fence runs along the sidewalk from one house to the other. A gate at either end opens to the walkways to each house.
Four steps lead to the recessed entrance of No. 74, and the door is surrounded by sidelights and a transom.
Inside, a charming foyer gives the choice of entering the dining room on the right, the stairs straight ahead or the living room on the left. A door beside the stairs opens to stairs to the basement.
The living room is elegant. The mellow heart pine floors glimmer in the light from the large windows and provide a perfect foil for the rich green walls and the white woodwork and window frames.
A wood-burning fireplace is surrounded by carved white marble with a white marble hearth. A coat closet is next to the fireplace.
The recently updated kitchen features custom white cabinetry, white tile flooring, gray counters and stainless steel appliances.
The four windows in the room, two on each of two walls, frame charming views of the surrounding homes.
The dining room, painted brick red, has a fireplace that is a twin to the one in the living room. The floors are the same gleaming mellow heart pine floors.
The two windows in this room give views of the pink house across the lawn and a partial view of the Warren Tavern a street away. A brass chandelier hangs from the ceiling.
In the corner, a door opens to a beautiful powder room.
The kitchen is through the door at the end of the dining room. The room was recently updated from its 1992 renovation.
There is a gas range with five top cooking surfaces, a microwave and an exhaust fan above the range, a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, a dishwasher and a wine cooler.
The spacious master bedroom is carpeted, and the windows look out onto Warren Street.
All of the appliances are stainless steel.
The custom paneled cabinets are painted white, the tile floor is white, and the countertops are dark gray. A peninsula counter provides a dining spot. In the far corner, a brick surround painted white frames another wood-burning fireplace.
A door at the end of the kitchen opens to a deck made private with screening on two sides and the house on the third side. Steps on the fourth side lead to a patio.
The second floor of the home has a bedroom at each end. Exposed beams enhance the hallway between the two. Again, the floors are beautiful gleaming heart pine.
The room on the east has two windows that overlook Warren Street and the beautiful homes there.
Two other windows offer views of the lawn and the pink home across the lawn.
One of the baths is this home boasts a Jacuzzi soaking tub, next to a wood-burning fireplace.
The room on the west has two windows that show the pink house, the lawn, and the Warren Tavern. Two closets are in the west wall.
Between the second floor bedrooms are a laundry room and an amazing bathroom.
A window with immovable frosted glass allows light from the hallway windows to enter the bathroom. White paneling encases the room’s Jacuzzi soaking tub.
Black tiles form the tub surround, and above them are mirrored panels. On an adjacent wall, white painted brick and white paneling surround a wood-burning fireplace.
A good morning staircase leads to the next level. Near the top, the stairs divide and three steps lead to the master bedroom to the left and three other steps go to the study on the right.
The two windows in the master bedroom overlook Warren Street.
There is a master bath with a shower and a huge walk-in closet with built-ins.
A deck off the study with a woven privacy fence is one of two decks at this home.
A railing surrounds the study so that the hallway below can be seen.
A skylight gives daylight to the area. A door at the end of the study leads to another deck that is made private with a woven fence and planters.
