Colors for 2010 promise to be rich
At Design Boston, Sherwin-Williams’ color expert Christie Del Ciotto presented Colormix 2010, a color-forecasting seminar that introduced four of the richest, handsomest palettes in recent memory. Sherwin-Williams now collaborates with the Robert Allen Group, enabling designers to color coordinate paint color with fabrics and upholstery.
The color paths for 2010 evoke vivid images:
Rooted – Earthy, tribal colors influenced by African, Aboriginal and Native American cultures can fit comfortably into many modern settings:
-
Ochre (Rookwood Amber, SW 2817)
-
Deep teal (Oceanside, SW6496)
-
Red (Tomato Red, SW 6607)
-
Dark gray (Darkroom, SW 7083)
-
Desert landscape tones (Nomadic Desert, SW6107 and Foothills, SW7514)
Simplified – A clean, subtle look with mid-century and Bauhaus influences, uncluttered, with translucent, layered colors:
-
Buttery yellow (Butter Up, SW 6681)
-
Bright and creamy whites (Whitetail, SW 7103 and Moderate White, SW6140)
-
Masculine grays (Magnetic Gray, SW 7058 and Serious Gray, SW 6256)
-
Dusty violet (Enigma, SW 6018)
Treasured – Mellowed with patina, these colors add character, giving materials the look of artisan crafts, time-tested and well worn:
-
Blue haze (Smoky Blue, SW 7604)
-
Verdigris (Gallery Green, SW 0015)
-
Yellow with a touch of green (Sequin, SW 6394)
-
Rusty brown (Sturdy Brown, SW 6097)
-
Muted coral (Caribbean Coral, SW 2854)
-
Creamy, aged vellum (Interactive Cream, SW 6113)
Refreshed – A splash of the Bohemian sixties and a smattering of eighties jewel tones, these colors can be used in small doses with black and white to brighten a neutral room:
-
Red violet (Verve Violet, SW6979)
-
True green (Pickle, SW 6725)
-
Lemonade (Fun Yellow, SW 6908)
-
Sapphire blue (Sapphire, SW 6963)
-
Yellow orange (Summer Day, SW 6662)
-
Tropical coral (Animated Coral, SW6878)
Adding new color is a creative and resourceful means to personalize a room. And, it’s the easiest way to make the best use of what you already have.
