Condo on Boston waterfront has three decks, views
Think of how wonderful it would be to live on an extra large luxury yacht. It would be possible to watch the sun come up over the water and set behind the city where the yacht is moored.
Life would seem so carefree that ultimate relaxation would be possible. The only drawback could be becoming seasick from the rocking yacht. A solution has been found for that...
In 1801 the United States Navy established a navy yard along the waterfront in Charlestown across the Charles from the North End.
One of the benefits of having the yard there was that the land was not privately developed. The yard closed in 1974 and the land was given to the National Park Service.
Once the Park Service developed the plans for the area, they retained enough land and piers for the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides), the destroyer USS Cassin Young, a dry dock where repairs are sometimes made to historic ships, and two maritime museums.
The rest of the land was then sold. Now the Charlestown Navy Yard includes marinas, restaurants, shops and condominiums.
One of the condominium complexes, Constellation Wharf, is on Pier 7 at the end of Ninth Street. It was built in 1988 and looks like a modern sculpture interpreting a naval ship.
The 64 units there have a gated entrance manned by a security guard, private parking, and landscaped areas where the views can be enjoyed.
A wall of windows gives amazing water views from the dining room.
Unit 20 at 20 Constellation Wharf has four bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, three decks that have the same relationship to the water as those on a ship, a granite eat-in kitchen with top appliances and views of Boston.
This stunning home also has a study/office with a built-in desk and cabinets, living room, dining room, family room, sunroom, laundry room, two wood-burning fireplaces, two deeded covered parking spaces, and stunning water or city views from every room.
Karen Colombosian of Otis & Ahearn Real Estate ihas listed the 3,128 +/- square foot home at $1.685 million.
The first level of the home has a large entry with marble floors. The study is to the left and then the staircase. Straight ahead are double doors that when open give spectacular views of Boston Harbor and a marina.
When the doors are closed they give privacy to the bedroom behind them. To the right of the front door are a large closet and a full bath.
The working space of the kitchen has granite counters, a center island with seating, and high-end appliances.
The bedroom is several steps down from the entry so that there are views from both areas. The room has a wood-burning fireplace and a deck overlooking a marina and Boston Harbor, much like the view from a yacht. The room is large with the amazing water views.
The study on this level has views of the Zakim Bridge and a panorama of Boston. A built-in desk is in front of the window so that the views can give inspiration when taking a break from reading or writing.
The desk continues along the entire wall with drawers and cabinets for storage. Matching wall cabinets are on the wall past the window, and a tall, matching cabinet is on the adjoining wall. The closet in the room has built-ins for printers and other office equipment.
Up the staircase are the entertaining areas of the home.
The open living room and dining room are at the top of the staircase.
One of the rooms is several steps down from the other. A built-in granite-topped cabinet separates the two rooms.
The master bedroom has a custom-built dressing room with a wall of closets and a granite-covered vanity with sink.
A wall of windows gives amazing water views from both rooms. The lower room has a wood-burning fireplace.
The current owners like to use the lower room as a dining room − and eat by the fire in the winter − and as a living room in the summer, when there is more activity on the water.
The kitchen is at the end of the first room. A powder room is between the two.
The left side of the kitchen has plenty of space for a breakfast table. The corner window just past the table gives views in two directions, views that include the Zakim Bridge and the Boston skyline.
From here and from the bedroom a level above, there are wonderful views of the Fourth of July fireworks over the Charles River.
The working space of the kitchen has granite counters, a center island with seating and Jenn-Air and Maytag appliances.
There is a trash compactor, an indoor grill, six cooking surfaces, a wall oven and a wall microwave, a side-by side refrigerator paneled to match the cabinets and lots of storage space.
The two double, floor-to-ceiling pantries are beside the refrigerator and have built-ins that include a working area for small appliances in one and a vacuum cleaner storage area in the other.
A wide doorway at the end of the kitchen gives access to the family room.
From the corner window in the kitchen and from the bedroom a level above, there are wonderful views of the Fourth of July fireworks over the Charles River.
It has water views and a deck. A door beside the deck leads back to the living room.
The next level has a master bedroom with a deck on the waterside. There is a custom-built dressing room with a wall of closets and a granite-covered vanity with sink. The bath has another granite-covered vanity and sink and a marble shower large enough for two.
On the same level are a laundry room, another bedroom with Boston views, a huge walk-in closet, another bath, and a sunroom/bedroom with a wall of glass that curves to form part of the ceiling.
