Grand Boston condo features stunning kitchen, terraces
Even before Atelier | 505 was completed in 2004, the 103 condominiums in the mixed-use South End landmark at 505 Tremont St. had been sold.
The developer, the Druker Company Ltd., allowed only one of the units to be combined, according to Rene Rodriguez of Cabot & Company.
“Celebrity has its privileges,” he says.
That residence was to be for Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra and his bride, Olympic soccer star Mia Hamm. They had engaged designer Dennis Duffy to create a spectacular space.
But Garciaparra was traded to the Chicago Cubs before they could move in, and the customized home was sold to someone else.
Now, the spacious abode is on the market for $4.375 million. Rodriguez is the listing broker.
The foyer of this home leads into the great room with its 12.5-foot high ceiling. The oversized, double-glazed windows are as large as those in an artist’s studio, hence the name atelier.
The views overlooking Warren Avenue include the John Hancock towers and the Clarendon. At night, the scenery is equally mesmerizing, says Rodriguez.
The rich hardwood flooring of exotic Afzelia Doussie extends into the adjoining open dining room and the kitchen.
A media room or library, located next to the dining room, has a cork floor and pocket doors.
The kitchen is shaped like an inverted C, partially defined by an L-shaped two-level counter of Caesarstone. The counter also doubles as a breakfast bar.
Thin, multi-tone glass tiles comprise the backsplash, and the cabinetry has a finish that has a bird’s eye maple veneer.
High-end stainless steel appliances include a Sub-Zero refrigerator, a Gaggenau gas cooktop with a hood vented to the outdoors, a Wolf microwave, convection oven and warming drawer and a Miele dishwasher.
Around the corner is a huge wall of pantry cabinets. Opposite is a pocket door that opens into a large laundry room with side-by-side Bosch washer and two Maytag Neptune dryers. One is traditional, but the other includes options for steam or for flat drying.
Next to the dining area is a large library or media room with two pocket doors and cork flooring.
The kitchen boasts custom-designed cabinetry, Caesarstone counters and high-end stainless steel appliances.
This room has tall windows that look out to one of the two balconies. This terrace can be accessed from the dining room or from the master bedroom, which is next to the library.
The master bedroom, which would have been a great room had the units not been combined, has a 12.5-foot ceiling and beautiful customized silk drapes.
The en suite bath is sumptuous and spa-like. The glass-enclosed shower with multiple sprays is oversized, and the soaking tub is deep.
The vanity, topped with a bluish green Caesarstone, holds two undermount sinks.
The walk-in closet is huge, even with its built-in maple shelving, drawers and hanging rods.
The two other bedrooms are on the far side of the condo, located off the foyer.
The master bedroom suite has a 12.5-foot-high ceiling with tall windows, an en suite bath and a huge walk-in closet.
A short hallway with a half bath and a large closet lead to the two bedrooms, each of which has an en suite bath and cork floors.
The smaller of the two bedrooms is still substantial at 12 by 12 feet and has a large closet. The en suite bath has a combination tub/shower.
The larger bedroom is 16 by 13 feet and has a large walk-in closet and an en suite master bath with both a glass-enclosed shower and soaking tub, plus two undermounted sinks set into the marble-topped vanity.
A glass door in the larger bedroom opens onto a large terrace, which can also be accessed from the great room.
In addition to all the closet space within the home, Unit 402/403 has two additional storage spaces within the garage and three deeded parking spaces.
The home has a whole-house sound system which is absolutely delightful. The window drapes and the shades are electronically operated.
The master bath is lavish with an oversized glass-enclosed shower and a deep soaking tub with jets.
Other amenities at Atelier | 505 include a large library lined with shelves filled with books and a conference room that is ideal for a business meeting.
On the other side of the library are a function room that can hold 50 people and a private outdoor terrace that can be reserved for entertaining. A caterer’s kitchen and a large power room are conveniently located.
On the third floor are an exercise room with weight-training and cardiovascular equipment, a sauna and a shower.
The residences at Atelier | 505 have a separate entrance in the mixed-use development. A canopy shelters the glass doors that open into a stunning lobby with teak-paneled walls and Travertine marble floors.
In addition to a doorman, a concierge is on duty behind a desk that faces the entrance, and the elevators are around the corner.
Retail shops, restaurants and a real estate office are located on the first floor of the complex, and next door is the Boston Center for the Arts, which comprises several galleries and theaters.
This home has two balconies that overlook Warren Avenue and the Back Bay skyline.
Atelier | 505 serves as a gateway both to the South End and the Back Bay.
