Grand Boston home is a spectacular sale
The single-family Victorian home at 297 Marlborough St. in the Back Bay is among the city’s spectacular sales in September. It sold for $4.575 million.
Beth Dickerson of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty was the listing broker, and Daniel Mullin of Daniel A. Mullin & Associates was the selling broker.
Built in 1872, the four-story brick townhouse with an au pair suite on the garden level was completely renovated in 2010-2011, creating elegant living space with Smart House technology.
Behind the mahogany double front doors are a small vestibule and a large foyer that includes a magnificent staircase, which was completely rebuilt. In addition, a new elevator was added.
To the right is a large dining area with a gas fireplace with a marble surround.
At the back of the house is a huge kitchen with extra tall bay windows that overlook the garden.
The kitchen is equipped with high-end appliances, custom cabinetry and granite counters, and the center island has a mahogany top.
The stunning kitchen boasts a mahogany-topped center island, granite counters, custom cabinetry and a marble backsplash.
The piano nobile is meant for entertaining, and this home does not disappoint. The living room at the front has a 12-foot-high ceiling and an oriel that draws in lots of natural light. A gas fireplace has a granite surround.
The family room in the back is similar in size and features another fireplace with honed granite.
The master bedroom suite with a wood-burning fireplace comprises the third floor, and between the bedroom and a sumptuous marble bath are two large walk-in closets.
The bath itself includes both an oversized Jacuzzi tub set into a marble deck between two windows and a glass-enclosed steam shower.
The top floor has two more bedrooms with en suite marble baths and a full stairway that leads up to a large head house and a spacious mahogany deck.
The elegant staircase was completely rebuilt during the renovation. At the left of the entry is the dining room.
The au pair suite on the garden level features a large living room/family room with a gas fireplace and a big bedroom with a full bath. It has a separate entrance from the street but can be accessed from the floor above. Two deeded parking spaces belong to this home.
