Grand Boston penthouse is beautifully designed, furnished
A stunning penthouse on the 17th floor of One Charles, the luxurious full-service Midtown residential development at 1 Charles Street South, is a sleek, contemporary home that has been painstakingly refinished.
Tracy Campion of Campion and Company Real Estate is marketing the penthouse, PH-2C, furnished, for $3.5 million.
One Charles is a 17-story brick, glass and aluminum building developed by Millennium Partners seven years ago at the easterly end of Boston’s Park Square. At its base are two entrances, each manned by a doorman; in between is a porte cochère.
Each lobby has a large reception area with a soaring ceiling and a concierge desk that is staffed around the clock. Each is elegant, paneled with stained sapelwood and tiled with Serpentine granite. Two elevators ascend to the residences; there is a service elevator as well.
The entry to the penthouse is just a few steps from the elevator and opens into a long marble foyer, ideal for displaying works of art. To the left are the main living spaces.
A small vestibule leads to the spacious living room that has been totally refinished by the New York interior design firm of Pembrooke and Ives.
The monochromatic palette is a perfect backdrop for artwork and does not detract from the huge floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
The expansive living room includes a custom-designed console and a flat-screen television that are included in the sale.
Indeed. You are drawn toward the sweeping views of the city – the State House, Boston Common, the Public Garden.
The flooring is ebony-stained oak, laid in a herringbone pattern. Ceiling height is 10 feet.
Comfortable chairs and a leather couch are arranged as a conversation area around a big coffee table, and against one wall is a custom-designed console above which is a flat-screen television.
At the far end of the room is another custom-built piece of furniture – a banquette with a high back. Large, square, Asian-inspired contemporary lights are suspended above the custom-made table.
These squares are repeated in the tiny recessed ceiling lights found throughout the condo.
The customized kitchen boasts Poggenpohl cabinets, black granite counters, high-end stainless steel appliances and Lagos Azul limestone tiled floor.
To the right of the banquette is an incredible and spacious kitchen, which also can be accessed from the entry hall, creating an easy flow of traffic that is particularly sensible for gracious entertaining.
The kitchen has custom-finished Poggenpohl cabinetry, some with glass fronts, and Impala black granite counters. A second tier serves as a breakfast bar that can seat three. High-end appliances are de rigueur – a Viking four-burner gas cooktop and Viking double ovens, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and a Miele dishwasher, paneled like the cabinets, a built-in microwave and a U-line wine cooler.
The flooring in the kitchen looks like marble, but it is honed Lagos Azul limestone.
The master bedroom suite is situated next to the living area yet is private. A large canopy bed occupies most of the space in the bedroom, which has an especially built dresser.
Three double closets with built-in shelves and drawers line one wall. One of the closets has full-length mirrors on the inside of the doors. There is a huge walk-in closet as well.
The master bedroom suite is a retreat with abundant closet space, plus a walk-in closet. The tall windows offer views of the city skyline.
The master bath is lavish. Ivory marble tops the vanity that holds two undermounted sinks and surrounds the deep soaking tub. The flooring is marble, and the walls and floor of the glass-enclosed shower are marble as well.
On the other side of the condo, off the entry foyer, is a bedroom hall with two more bedrooms. Each has an en suite bath with a combination tub/shower, a towel warmer and a marble-topped vanity. The floor is marble.
A powder room with a black ceramic toilet and vessel sink is located close to the entry for the convenience of guests.
The attention to detail in the redesign of this home is amazing. All of the windows have shades with motorized controls, and the bedrooms include blackout shades as well as beautiful silk window treatments.
The walls boast hand-painted finishes, and the master bedroom has suede-painted walls. A surround sound system is a nice bonus that is included with the sale.
The master bath is lavish and boasts a dark vanity topped with ivory marble, a deep soaking tub and a separate glass-enclosed shower surrounded in marble.
The home has forced hot air heating system and central air conditioning. A large in-unit laundry closet has a stacked washer and dryer and shelves for extra storage.
Living at One Charles offers other amenities too that are available to all residents. The third floor has a media room with a flat-screen television, a fully equipped catering kitchen and a private dining room that can accommodate 10.
A spacious library with large windows, a gas fireplace and seating alcoves, plus a fitness center with a sauna, is on this floor as well.
One Charles has an ideal location too. It’s a short walk to the Public Garden or Boston Common or the State House or the Theater District. Fine dining and shopping is nearby as well.
