Magnificent South End home is a spectacular sale
The single-family Venetian-Gothic-style home at 19 Rutland Square in the South End is among the city’s spectacular sales in October. It sold for $2.8 million.
Lili Banani, Annette Itzkan and Paul Whaley of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage had listed the home; Ricardo Rodriguez, also of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage was the selling broker.
Built between 1859 and 1861, this former two-family house was completely redesigned and renovated 11 years ago, creating five levels of outstanding living space.
The traditional double doors open into a stunning reception hall and gracious staircase, set in the middle of the home. At the front is a beautiful formal dining room with a decorative marble fireplace and crown molding.
The open kitchen with granite counters, a large center island, German cabinetry and high-end appliances concludes with a boxed bay.
The eat-in kitchen was custom designed and includes top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, granite counters and German cabinetry.
It is a perfect size for a small table and chairs, and French doors there open onto a balcony.
The grand staircase leads directly to an elegant music room, which has another marble fireplace, which is decorative and crown molding trimmed with roses. Off the music room is another balcony accessed through a pair of French doors.
At the front of the house on this level is the formal living room, which has abundant bookshelves, like those in the dining room, and a decorative marble fireplace.
The stairs to the third level are built against the party wall, allowing for a spacious master bedroom suite. The bedroom has the original wide honey pine flooring, another decorative white marble fireplace and crown molding.
The master bath at the back boasts an oversized glass-enclosed shower on one side of the room, and the toilet on the other. In the middle are two vanities, separated by a two-sided mirror.
The top floor has two more bedrooms and a bath in the hallway.
The living room on the second level boasts a 14-foot-high ceiling with ornate crown molding and a ceiling medallion.
A skylight in the bath gives access to the roof; another skylight above the staircase brightens the staircase and the hall.
The garden level has a family room and small kitchen, plus a home office. A wall of glass gives views of the patio. Other amenities include an elevator to all floors and two deeded parking spaces.
