Renovated Back Bay duplex is among spectacular sales
A meticulously renovated Back Bay condominium at 181 Marlborough St. is among the spectacular sales of Boston homes during December.
In this striking 1881 Queen Anne-style brick and sandstone building with terra cotta accents, Unit 1, a three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath duplex, sold for $3.85 million, which included an easement for a separate outdoor parking space.
Debra Sordillo of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Itzkan and Marchiel was the listing broker, and Maureen O’Hara of the same office was the selling broker. Sordillo said the buyers were the first couple to see the home.
The main living space of this 2,405-square-foot residence occupies the parlor level, where a stunning living room with a marble gas fireplace and custom-built bookshelves overlooks Marlborough Street.
The family room with a fireplace is open to the kitchen and a large private deck.
The home flows into an elegant dining room and continues to the family room, which has a wood-burning fireplace, custom bookshelves and a door to a spacious private deck, which has gas and water service and stereo speakers.
The gourmet kitchen with a two-tiered breakfast bar is open to the family room and includes granite counters, custom cabinetry and high-end appliances. Off the kitchen is a convenient powder room.
The second level features a master bedroom suite with a sunny, southern exposure, two large closets and a marble-tiled bath with a bubble jet massage tub and walk-in steam shower. Two en suite guest bedrooms with large closets are at the back of the house, and in between is a good-sized laundry.
Other amenities include wiring for home theater technology in most of the rooms and individually controlled radiant heat in every room. All rooms, except for the baths, have quarter-sawn oak flooring.
Two deeded tandem parking spaces in the heated garage, plus the outdoor space, were included in the sale.
